The cinema awards season continues to roll on, as movie audiences throughout the world get ready to see the culmination of the awards season commence with the 2016 Oscars. The 88th Academy Awards won't air until February 28 on ABC, but one of my favorite occurrences during this time isn't the actual awards, but more so the Q&A's from the notable filmmakers on their nominated films. Every year, various award ceremonies recognize the cinematic achievements from the major departments involved with any production. Bringing forth a myriad of interviews in regards to how each responsibility was successfully accomplished. Fortunately, this practice helps give insight to eager filmmakers, who are able to get detailed first-hand accounts of the filmmaking process from influential industry professionals. It's like Christmas in February for us Film Nerds!
To me, to be an effective filmmaker one must always seek out more knowledge, opinions, and expertise from those who are experienced master's of the craft. The Director's Guild of America supports this notion, by hosting a Q&A session with the five nominees for the 2015 Guild's Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film Award. The interview is long but well worth your time, if making films is something of importance to you! You can check out highlights from each of the 5 directors on the DGA website, so don't let a long video take you away from some great knowledge.
